Max and Marcy

Max: I’m not telling anyone until my parents promise to give me what I want. Max: Marcy, why are you counting your fingers? Marcy: It’s the Omer. I’m counting the days until Shavuot. There are only forty-three left. Max: You really like these holidays, don’t you? It’s still Pesach, and you’re already counting down to the next holiday. Marcy: We’re supposed to count, from the time we got out of Egypt till the day we received the Torah. It comes to seven weeks. Max: You mean we have a holiday for seven weeks. That’s great! Marcy: Actually it’s not such a happy time. During the Omer, the 24,000 students of Rabbi Akiva died. Because of this, some Jews won’t go to concerts, or even shave or get a haircut during the Omer. Max: Okay, I promise I won’t shave during the Omer either. |
