Omer
	When the Temple was still standing, the seven weeks between Pesach and Shavuot was the time when Jews brought their first fruits as an offering to God. Since this was the time between the harvest of barley and of wheat, it was a very tense period for the farmers of Israel, who were not yet sure how their crops turned out. That’s why, during the forty nine days of the Omer, they would not hold any celebrations like weddings or parties.
