Wise Son
In the Haggadah we tell the story of four sons who attended the seder. The wise son was like Max, who asked lots of questions and wanted to know everything. We are told to explain every last detail to him. The second son is bored and cynical: all he is asks is “Why do you do all these strange things?” We answer him sharply and say that this is why God took us out of Egypt. The third son is interested but he doesn’t really know what’s going on. The Haggadah says that we should explain the seder to him in a way that he can understand. The last son is too young to even ask any questions. We are told to encourage him to participate. Finally, no matter which son (or daughter) you are, everyone has a place at the seder.
