Purim is one big
party, celebrating how the Jews of Persia defeated their enemies who had
tried to destroy them. In Shushan, the Persian capital, the fighting took
an extra day, so the parties started one day later. We remember this by
celebrating Purim one day later in cities that were walled in Biblical
times, including Jerusalem, our capital. When most people are just getting
over their Purim parties, the people of Jerusalem are just getting ready
to start theirs.
