Dreidels are a favorite toy on Chanukah. They are four-sided tops with Hebrew letters painted or carved on the sides. The letters - nun, gimel, heh, and shin - stand for the Hebrew words: “Nes gadol haya sham” (A great miracle happened there). In Israel a dreidel is called a sevivon. The sevivon has a peh instead of a shin on one side, so that the letters stand for “Nes gadol haya po” (A great miracle happened here).
