There are many foods, called hametz, that we do not eat during Pesach. They include anything made with grain, like bread, cookies, cake, and beer. Some people won’t even eat kitniyot foods like rice, corn, peas, or peanuts, because they can be made into flour which might be confused with hametz. Not only is it forbidden to eat hametz during Pesach; it is even forbidden to own it or have it in the house, so people rinse and scrub everywhere to make sure that no hametz is left over.
