Some sages say that it is just as important to eat on the day before Yom Kippur as it is to fast on Yom Kippur itself. That’s why, just before the fast begins, we have a big holiday meal, called the se’uda hamafseket, the final meal. Then, as soon as the meal is finished, we change into shoes which are not made of  leather and go to Beit Knesset for Kol Nidre.
